Board Membership

Susan is available to fill open board seats in the public, private and nonprofit sectors. She has extensive board of directors experience, including past and present membership on the board of ten organizations.

Current Board Memberships

Endurance Specialty Holdings, Ltd. -  Endurance is a publicly traded (NYSE:ENH) global specialty provider of insurance and reinsurance with over 800 employees in Bermuda, the United Kingdom, Singapore, Switzerland and the United States. Susan currently serves as a member of the Underwriting, Risk and Compensation Committees.

Virtus Investment Partners, Inc. - Virtus is a publicly traded (NASDAQ:VRTS) asset management company. The Company is a distinctive partnership of boutique investment managers singularly committed to the long-term success of individual and institutional investors. Susan currently serves as Chairwoman of the Governance Committee and as a member of the Finance Committee.

Hanover Investors Limited - Founded in the UK in 2002, Hanover is an investment firm focused on undervalued opportunities, in particular, businesses with significant potential for turnaround and recovery. They invest primarily in public market securities, typically equity, and new equity from their own funds and institutional investors for leveraged buyouts and recapitalization of public companies.

Educate the Children - Educate the Children works with women and children in Nepal to improve health, welfare and self-sufficiency by building skills that families can pass down to later generations. 

Past Board Memberships
Quanta Capital Holdings, Ltd. - Quanta is a publicly traded (NASDAQ:QNTA) Bermuda insurance holding company that operates a Lloyd's syndicate in London.  The Company is in the process of running off its remaining business lines.  Susan was invited to join the board of directors in July 2006 in order to provide analytic and insurance expertise during the Company’s wind-up either through selling or running off its operations. Susan currently serves as Chairwoman of the Finance Committee and as a member of the Audit and Compensation Committees.

Ceres Group, Inc. - Ceres is a formerly publicly traded insurance holding company that provides health and life insurance through two business segments. The senior segment includes senior health, life and annuity products for Americans, 55 years old and older, and the medical segment includes catastrophic and comprehensive major medical health insurance for individuals, families, associations and small businesses.  Sold to Great American Financial Resources Inc. in August 2006.  Served as a board member and member of audit committee from February 2000 to August 2006.

PXRE Group, Ltd. - PXRE is a publicly traded (NYSE:PXT) insurance holding company that provides reinsurance products and services to a worldwide marketplace through subsidiary operations in the United States, Europe, Bermuda and Barbados. The Company's primary focus is to provide property catastrophe reinsurance and retrocessional coverage to a worldwide group of clients.  Served as a board member and member of the human resources committee from April 2002 to April 2005.

Universal American Financial Group, Inc. - Universal American is a publicly traded (NASDAQ:UHCO) specialty health and life insurance holding company, with an emphasis on providing a broad array of health insurance and managed care products and services to the growing senior population. Served as a board member and as chairwoman of the compensation committee from July 1999 to December 2003.

Access CoverageCorp, Inc. - Access CoverageCorp was an insurance services technology company that provided online sales solutions to enable commercial insurers to more efficiently sell their products to small businesses; technology eliminated the need for human underwriting, thereby cutting time and cost from the process and improving the consistency of insurance underwriting decisions.  Sold to The Hartford Insurance Company in November 2001. Served as a board member from May 2000 to November 2001.

The All Stars Project, Inc. - ASP is a non-partisan, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to promoting human development through the use of an innovative performance-based model. The ASP creates outside of school, educational and performing arts activities for thousands of poor and minority young people. It sponsors community and experimental theatre, develops leadership training and pursues volunteer initiatives that build and strengthen communities. Served as a board member from January 1998 to December 2000.

  • Susan offers public seminars on how to value insurance companies multiple times a year in New York and London.
  • Topics include both P&C and life insurance
  • Sessions are highly interactive with use of multiple case studies and hands-on statutory-based modelling

Private In-Housing Training Seminars

  • Susan also offers private in-house training seminars on insurance valuation, M&A and corporate finance.
  • Example clients include Citigroup, Deutsche Bank, Selective Insurance, The Hartford, Fox-Pitt, Kelton, and Willis Group.
  • These courses may be tailored to the experience level, interests and time availability of each client.
  • The following sample course agenda demonstrates the topics covered and the type of case studies used in the course. In-house trainings are typically 2 days in length, but may be extended or shortened depending on the experience level of the participants and the topics of interest.

Higher Education

Susan is available as a guest lecturer for both MBA and undergraduate courses on topics relating to either her career as a private equity investor in the insurance industry or to her current research investigating the particular challenges facing women in the business world. In the past, Susan has given guest lectures to MBAs and undergraduates on topics including:

  • Designing executive compensation plans
  • Challenges to the advancement of executive women
